Rare antique sterling silver stag handled 7 piece cutlery set by Harrison Bros and Howson. The set is made in Sheffield England in 1887. the fitted red velvet and silk box has a ribbon along the inside top that reads "Harrison Bros & Howson Cutlery To Her Majesty Norfolk Street Sheffield". This company made cutlery for the Queen and Royal Family in the 19th century. It is the finest English cutlery made. This is an exquisite 7 piece set in excellent condition fully hallmarked. The bottom of the handles are made in sterling silver as well as the top of the handle. The bottom of the handle above the stag horn is fully hallmarked with high relief sculptured ram heads, flowers and an unusual wreath and floral design. There are 2 carving forks and 2 carving knives. The larger fork measure 11-1/4 inches long, the smaller carving fork measures 10-1/2 inches. The largest carving knife measures 15 inches long and the smaller carving knife measures 13 inches long. There is also a roast piercer with bloods grooves in the blade, used to extract juice from the meat. To find a carving set with a roast piercer is extremely unusual, this is the only one and the most complete one I have seen. The quality is the finest money can buy. If it was good enough for the Queen it will be good enough for the most particular collector or connoisseur. In addition to those 5 pieces there is also a beautifully detailed reticulated and engraved fully hallmarked fish serving set. The fish slice has a mythological face, it is beautifully engraved and has a flower and foliate design. It measures 13-1/2 inches long, widest width at blade is 2 inches. The fish serving fork measures 13-1/2 inches long, the widest width of the fork is 2 inches. The set is in its original red velvet and silk lined fitted case with metal hinges and metal closing device. The case measures 19 inches long, 10-3/4 inches wide, and 1-3/4 inches high. Certainly the expression 'fit for a king or queen' applies to this set.
