Antique Signed E. W. Wyon 1848 Carved In High Relief Alabaster Plaque Titiania and Oberon. This is a beautiful high relief sculture artist signed and dated. The scene is finely carved Edward William Wyon was famous for carving alabaster reliefs. An example of this same model plaque sold at auction for 1500 unframed in poor condtion in 1998 at an auction house in spain. This has the original antique gilt 19th century wood frame. The plaque has a diameter of 7.5 inches and the frame measures 12'' by 12". This plaque is in superb condition. Oberon is a king of the fairies in medieval and Renaissance literature. He is best known as a character in William Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, in which he is Consort to Titania, Queen of the Fairies.
